Many Ways to Conserve Water

Report leaks at UT
Oftentimes leaks at UT don't get reported, so no one knows to fix them! Please help us by reporting leaks you see. For indoor leaks, call 471-6188. For outdoor leaks, call 471-6888.

Take shorter showers
The average shower uses between 12-15 liters of water per minute. If you cut your showering time down just 5 minutes, you can save at least 16 gallons of water a day.

Repair faucet leaks at home
Did you know that 14% of the average American household's water use is due to leaks! Repair those leaks you've been meaning to fix!

Get water-conserving appliances
The City of Austin provides free or discount low-flow showerheads, efficient toilets, washers, irrigation systems, and more. You can also get a rain barrel for your house.

Water your lawn in the morning or evening
If you water during mid-day, most of your water will end up evaporating into the air, costing you more and wasting water too!

Save money on your water bills
In the winter months most wastewater utilities track your home water usage and use it to set wastewater rates for the coming year. If you want to reduce your wastewater bill, all you have to do is take simple steps to reduce the amount of water you use.
