Fall 2011 Job Openings
The Campus Environmental Center hires currently enrolled students in four different types of positions. The position types and current vacancies are described below. Positions can be work-study or hourly.
Director
Directors are selected in March each year and take office on June 1st through the following May. Directors are always current undergraduates taking at least 6 hours of class and usually no more than 12. Many directors in the past have earned academic credit by listing their directorship as an internship with BDP or their department. Directors must have served in a leadership position with CEC for at least one full year before applying. The CEC Director serves on the President’s Sustainability Steering Committee, represents CEC in Student Government meetings, and sets the strategic direction for the organization together with CBOARD and the Advisor. The position is paid at $10.00/hour for an average of 20 hours per week.
The Director position for 2011-2012 is closed, but applications for next year will open in March 2012.
Assistant Director
Assistant Directors are selected in early April each year and take office on the following September 1st through the following May. Assistant Directors are current undergraduate students taking at least 6 hours of class. AD’s have generally served in a leadership position with CEC for at least one full year, although some AD’s have been recruited from other student organizations. ADs oversee project areas such as Gardening, Orange Bike Project, or Recycling and have a great deal of strategic control over these areas. They identify the need for Coordinators, plan projects and solve problems with CBOARD, and are present at all events organized by their committee. Positions are paid at $9.50/hour for an average of 12 hours per week.
The Assistant Director positions for 2011-2012 are filled, but applications for next year will open in March 2012.
Coordinators
Coordinators are good positions for sophomore-senior students who are passionate about the environment and campus sustainability and feel confident about leading a special project. Coordinators focus tightly on one project, such as Trash to Treasure or our Tree Nursery (a Green Fee funded project). Graduate students are eligible for these positions. Positions are paid at $9.00/hour for an average of 10 hours per week.
Program Assistants
Program assistants are good positions for all undergraduate students looking to earn money while gaining experience in campus sustainability. They report to the Assistant Director for their project and help with necessary tasks to make the project run smoothly. Program Assistants will generally work regular hours during the week (sometimes weekends) and report to various locations around campus. Graduate students are eligible for these positions as well. Positions are paid at $8.75/hour for an average of 10 hours per week.
